NHRA, IHRA, DRAW Endorse Project 1320
July 28, 2009 - For Immediate Release
Support for PROJECT 1320 continues to mount as three major drag racing organizations, plus a major retailer have added their names to
the substantial list of organizations who have voiced their endorsements of the undertaking within the past week.
The National Hot Rod Association (N.H.R.A.), the Wally Parks NHRA Museum, the International Hot Rod Association (I.H.R.A.) and the Drag Racing Association of
Women (D.R.A.W.) have provided glowing statements for PROJECT 1320 and the effort which is underway to capture the first person recollections of the surviving
pioneers of drag racing as they reflect upon how and why the sport grew to prominence and grew the multi-billion dollar performance automotive aftermarket with it.
Additionally, Summit Racing Equipment released a statement of support from its President, Ray Tatko.
Traci Hrudka, Chairman of Quarter Mile Entertainment, LLC, producers of PROJECT 1320 noted, ìWe are extremely gratified with the receipts of these endorsements
from the two most prominent sanctioning bodies in the sport, which together have significantly shaped the sportís form and history across the decades. We plan to
work closely with both associations to draw from their archives and to extend the reach of this effort.
ìWe are also pleased to have the DRAW organization backing our efforts as well. DRAW has been a major part of the sport for nearly a quarter century and their
support adds further credibility to our efforts. DRAW and QME will collaborate on mutually beneficial programs in the future. And, Summitís support to advance the
cause is very welcomed.î
Speaking for the National Hot Rod Association and the Wally Parks NHRA Museum, President Tom Compton said, ìPROJECT 1320ís mission to capture first person narratives
about the life and times of the early pioneers and heroes of drag racing is a much needed and extremely important undertaking.
ìIt was these pioneers and heroes that transformed what was a personal passion among a group of enthusiasts to a thriving multi-billion dollar industry and a major
international sport. It is a testament to these early pioneers ‚both men and women ‚ who toiled and struggled during the early years to build the foundation of what
is today one of the greatest sports in the world.
ìTo capture, on film, these men and womenís stories about the life and times of drag racingís early days is an incredible undertaking. We are confident that the
passion you have, and that of everyone involved in this very important project, will ensure success and truly capture the heritage of our sport.î
Aaron Polburn, President of the International Hot Rod Association, stated, ìIn todayís sports entertainment world we often run across those who have attained greatness
yet we have completely forgotten their past. Project 1320 has the endorsement of the IHRA because one should never forget from where they came.
ìAs time moves on, our memories of the legends who brought drag racing to prominence begins to fade. PROJECT 1320 will, through the use of oral histories, told by
the surviving legends, will return those memories to sharper focus.î
Beth Hyatt, President of the Drag Racing Association of Women observed, ìJust as it was critical nearly 25 years ago to assist racers and their families who
suffered injuries on and off the track, so is it essential we capture the first-person recollections of the surviving legends of drag racing, and the performance
aftermarket. We know the numbers of the remaining pioneers who can tell the story are rapidly dwindling, and if we do not act now, these memories will lost.
ìDRAW and Quarter Mile Entertainment will be working together to support both of our efforts in the future.
DRAW strongly encourages individuals and corporations in our sport and industry to support PROJECT 1320, a very worthwhile and needed undertaking.î
Ray Tatko, Summit Racing Equipment President said, "Drag racingís history is filled with incredible personalities, amazing automotive engineering, and unbelievable
stories. The Quarter-Mile project will allow us to tell new generations of race enthusiasts how those personalities and engineering marvels turned drag racing from a
grassroots movement into the widely popular sport it is today."
